Job Summary
The Milner Library Digitization Center converts Illinois State University and community materials to digital formats for a variety of purposes, most notably research and scholarship.
Essential tasks include making small, repetitive motions such as typing or operating equipment and looking at screens for prolonged periods. Attention to detail, including close reading skills and ability to follow written directions, is essential for success in this role.
Job duties
• Scan and/or photograph historical books, documents, photographs, artwork, and objects
• Transcribe type- and/or handwritten text
• Edit, process, and store digital files in a complex directory structure
• Ensure copyright compliance by redacting unlicensed content from digitized images

Pay Rate
$15.00/hour
Required Qualifications
• General desktop computer literacy, including experience working with and understanding of file directories and file management conventions
• Ability to read and transcribe handwritten cursive documents
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good task adherence and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience handling rare and/or fragile historical materials
• Experience using flatbed, overhead, and/or slide scanners
• Photography experience, especially studio/commercial photography training
• Experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud software, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, Acrobat, Bridge, and Photoshop
• Coursework in 19th and 20th century American history
• Experience working in GLAMRs (galleries, libraries, archives, museums, or record centers)
• Experience working in a fast-paced, production-oriented, and security-conscious environment
Work Hours
10 - 15 hours per week, flexible
