Job Summary
The Department of Accounting at Illinois State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank to begin August 2027.
We seek candidates who are highly qualified and motivated to teach accounting courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Primary teaching responsibilities are expected to include Intermediate Accounting and Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting.
A successful candidate will be expected to:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, including Intermediate Accounting and Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting.
• Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement efforts within the accounting program.
• Pursue an active program of scholarly research consistent with expectations for a tenure-track faculty position.
• Engage in service activities that support the department, college, university, and accounting profession.
• Collaborate with faculty colleagues to support student success, recruitment, retention, and career preparation initiatives.
• Incorporate innovative and engaging pedagogical approaches that promote student learning and professional development.
• Contribute to cross functional and integrative curriculum development across accounting and related business disciplines.

The Department of Accounting is housed within the College of Business, which is accredited by AACSB International. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Business Information Systems, as well as graduate programs designed to prepare students for professional careers and leadership roles in the accounting profession. Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$160,500 – $170,500/year
Required Qualifications
• Earned Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Accounting or a closely related field from an AACSB-accredited institution by the appointment start date (August 2027). ABD candidates will be considered; however, all degree requirements must be completed prior to the start date of employment.
• Demonstrated ability to teach Intermediate Accounting and Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
• Demonstrated potential for conducting scholarly research consistent with expectations for a tenure-track faculty position at an AACSB-accredited institution.
• Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching and student engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to departmental, college, university, and professional service activities.
• Demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language, as required by Illinois State University and Illinois law for teaching positions.
