Job Summary
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance of the golf course properties including the golf course, the Mounier Training Center, maintenance equipment, golf cart fleet, clubhouse grounds, landscaping, parking lot, and snow removal.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$76,655 annual
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below:
A. Coursework in turfgrass management, soil science, horticulture or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. Progressively more responsible work experience in golf course grounds maintenance which included supervisory responsibilities.
3. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in the management of golf course grounds maintenance programs.
4. Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree
2. Member in good standing with the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America.
3. Minimum three (3) years' experience as a golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent with specific experience in golf course maintenance, small-large engines and machinery, irrigation systems, and crew supervision.
4. Knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape construction/maintenance work.
5. Knowledge of the rules of golf.
6. Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
7. Ability to follow oral and written directions.
8. Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports.
9. Degree in Turf Management or related field.
Work Hours
Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. Frequent weekend and night availability required.
Functional Expectations
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Perform acts of physical labor including digging, shoveling, raking, and hand mowing.
2. Occasionally lift items weighing 50 pounds or more.
3. Ride or drive motorized mowing equipment and other golf course maintenance vehicles for extended periods of time.
4. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
