Job Summary
Serves as the executive assistant to the Director of Student Counseling Services (SCS) with staff management, budget/financial support, report writing, committee representation, data preparation, information dissemination, scheduling, and correspondence. Alongside the Associate Director of Clinical Services, works to oversee the daily office operations and supervision of all SCS support staff. The SCS is a large unit within the Division of Student Affairs, which requires the incumbent to make independent decisions daily.
Additional Information
Student Counseling Services maintains accreditation through two external bodies, the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS) and the American Psychological Association (APA), specifically our doctoral level training program. This position is involved in the maintenance and management of these accreditations. Additionally, this position requires commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and active participation in departmental DEI initiatives.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$20.11 - $25.36 per hour
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one of the following from the categories below:
A. Four (4) years (48 months) of work experience comparable to the third level of this series. This includes work such as performing a wide variety of office support tasks, which require the use of judgment and initiative and the ability to operate computer systems, using word processing, database and software packages. Knowledge of the organization, programs, practices, and procedures of the unit is central to the performance of the duties.
B. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience comparable to the fourth level of this series. This includes work such as performing highly specialized administrative support duties. In-depth knowledge of the organization, programs, policies, and procedures of the unit is essential to the performance of the duties, along with the ability to use good judgment, the ability to operate computer systems, using word processing, database, and software packages, and to exercise discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Familiarity with and/or passion for mental health at the campus and/or community level
2. Ability to verbally communicate in a direct, clear and concise manner.
3. Strong written communications as demonstrated by thorough knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and sentence structure.
4. Excellent organization skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to work within established university and State of Illinois guidelines in the administrative area (business management, human resources, and/or communication)
6. Ability to supervise, train, evaluate and review the work of other staff
Work Hours
7:45 AM – 4:15 PM Monday through Friday

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions.
