Job Summary
To provide exceptional customer service to the campus community. Major responsibilities include servicing the internal and external customers by processing departmental work orders, processing building/office key requests, issuing/accepting returns of building/office keys, creating and conducting access audits, key transactions/charges, acting as a general receptionist by answering telephones and greeting walk-in traffic, as needed, as well as assisting with important departmental projects as needed, such as electronic key box implementations, facilities approval process, internal and partner charges/billing processes, and acting as a general receptionist by answering telephones and greeting walk in traffic.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$16.80 per hour
Required Qualifications
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Two (2) years of work experience in customer service that includes project coordination, process improvements, and/or business analysis.

1. Broad knowledge of office practices and procedures
2. Knowledge of computers
3. Excellent written and oral communication skills
4. Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment
5. Ability to deal with the public and clients in a friendly, positive manner
6. Initiative and ability to solve problems and identify alternative solutions.
7. Ability to promote team building through effective and timely communication.
8. Knowledge and understanding of University and departmental policies and procedures.
9. Ability to attend meetings during various times of day or night.
10. Must be able to speak and hear clearly over the radio and telephone.
11. Must be able to multitask and work under stressful conditions.
12. Valid Illinois driver’s license
Work Hours
Hours worked between 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., not to exceed 28 per week.
Functional Expectations
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Effectively communicate on a daily basis.
2. Remain at a workstation for extended periods.
3. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University's supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
