Job Summary
The Dr. Julia N. Visor Academic Center is a division of University College which exists to help students make successful transitions to Illinois State University, achieve their educational goals, and realize their academic potential in their first year and beyond. The Visor Center does this through specialized communities, programs, and services including facilitated study groups, writing assistance, learning workshops, and developmental and transitional courses.
Content tutors provide small-group tutoring on a weekly basis, for lower level courses at Illinois State University. A Comprehensive list of courses is at: https://universitycollege.illinoisstate.edu/tutoring/
This application is for an applicant pool. Applications will be reviewed mid-semester when there is an increase in demand for a subject or should staffing changes occur.

Pay Rate
$14.00 per hour
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 2.80.
A grade of A or high B is usually required in the course(s) in which the candidate is applying to tutor.
The tutor provides help tailored to each student's needs, so they must be friendly, desire to be helpful, and must be able to communicate effectively. While the main responsibility is tutoring, there will be other tasks as assigned by graduate assistant supervisors and the Coordinator of Academic Support Services.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be proficient in the area in which they desire to tutor and be able to convey that knowledge clearly via the spoken and written word.
Priority consideration will be given to those with a 3.00 GPA. Additional courses in the subject area applied for would be preferred.
Work Hours
May be some nights and weekends.

This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and if applicable, an employment history review, based on University Policy 3.1.30 and any offer of employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation and/or an employment history review.
