Job Summary
Campus Recreation is a part of the Division of Student Affairs, with offices located in the Student Fitness Center, Bowling and Billiards Center, McCormick Hall, and the Redbird Adventure Center. With 24 full-time staff and over 200 student team members, Campus Recreation is a dynamic environment with areas ranging from Fitness to Outdoor Adventure. While this position is a general assignment for the Campus Recreation Department, the Graduate Assistant will have a concentration with the Competitive Sports Program. Responsibilities are detailed below.

The Graduate Assistant will assist in general Campus Recreation initiatives with an emphasis in Competitive Sports. Responsibilities for the position will include, but are not limited to:
• Mentor and coach students in their leadership roles to encourage professional development
• Hire, train, and evaluate student team members
• Create, deliver, and evaluate trainings to student leaders and employees
• Assist with scheduling and payroll of student team members to facilitate proper coverage for practices, competitions, and events
• Collaborate with other Campus Recreation team members and assist with department events as needed
• Support programmatic benchmarking and assessment evaluation
• Assist with regular review of safety, operating, and procedure guidelines
• Assist with program administrative duties in areas additional to competitive sports
The Competitive Sports Program encompasses both Sport Club and Intramural Sports. The Sport Club Program consists of 28 clubs and 1,000 participants. Intramural Sports offers multiple sport formats throughout the academic year. This programming happens is three different facilities across campus, including Student Fitness Center, Gregory Street Fields, and Horton. While this position will have responsibilities across the entire department, there is an expected focus in Competitive Sports. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Manage one or more intramural sport including training, registration management, and maintenance during season
• Collect and verify club travel paperwork, involvement reports, and participation statistics
• Assist with distribution of sport club allocation monies
• Collaborate with Competitive Sports Assistant Director on the management of the competitive sports budget
Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the department.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$2,024 per month

2. Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in one of the following programs: Recreation Administration, Sport Management, Exercise Physiology, Applied Economics, Financial Economics, College Student Personnel Administration, KNR, MBA, Accountancy

This is a 9 1/2 month Graduate Assistantship, with a contract period August 1, 2025 - May 15, 2026. As a GA, you will be expected to adhere to the University Administrative Calendar and all expectations as set forth in the offer letter.

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session.
