The Safety-Environmental Compliance Specialist/LEHP will work in the Environmental Health and Safety Office to enforce Food Code and industry best practices that promote and maintain a healthy and safe environment for Illinois State University and its campus community. The Practitioner will conduct on-site inspections of licensed food handling establishments, temporary food permit holders, and daycare centers to ascertain their degree of compliance, and make efforts to educate and obtain compliance if deficiencies are observed. In addition, the individual will develop and administer education and training sessions for staff working in dining venues; investigate and respond to any food borne illness/food safety complaints; review any University construction or renovation plans for compliance; and other food-related concerns for the campus.
1. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety; Environmental Engineering; Environmental Health; Safety Engineering; Industrial Hygiene or a closely related field.
2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in a safety or compliance related field.
1. Current Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner certification or the ability to be certified with 18 months of hire.
2. At least one (1) year of experience conducting food safety inspections and/or food safety-related training.
3. Current Illinois Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification.
4. Certified ServSafe® Manager Instructor and/or Certified ServSafe® Manager Proctor.
5. Completion of OSHA 30-hour General Industry training course.
6. Experience with food safety inspection software and general data management programs.
Core Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

$50,000 - $55,000/year

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
