The Julia N. Visor Academic Center is a division of University College that provides services and programs designed to assist students with their academics.
Content tutors provide small-group tutoring on a weekly basis, for lower level courses at Illinois State University. A Comprehensive list of courses is at: http://universitycollege.illinoisstate.eduhelp/tutoring/.
This application is for an applicant pool. Applications will be reviewed midsemester when there is an increase in demand for a subject or should staffing changes occur. This posting is for both Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters.
Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least a 2.80.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in the area in which he/she desires to tutor and be able to convey that knowledge clearly via the spoken and written word.
A grade of A or high B is usually required in the course(s) in which the candidate is applying to tutor.
Priority consideration will be given to those with a 3.00 GPA. Additional courses in the subject area applied for would be preferred.
The tutor provides help tailored to each student's needs, so he/she must be friendly, desire to be helpful, and must be able to communicate effectively. While the main responsibility is tutoring, there will be other tasks as assigned by graduate assistant supervisors and the Coordinator of Learning Services.
May be some nights and weekends.

Applicants are required to submit two Content Tutor Reference forms. One reference form must be completed by a faculty member in the tutoring subject area. This position is subject to a criminal background investigation based on University Policy 3.1.30 and any offer of employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
