The Research Associate assists faculty in the Department of Agriculture, Department of Geography-Geology, and School for Biological Sciences, as well as external clients, in the analyses of samples. The current major research projects focus on how cover crops and other management strategies alter nutrient and sediment losses from the landscape. Nitrogen loss from agricultural fields in the central USA leads to widespread environmental problems downstream. Cover crops, planted after harvest, growing during fall, and terminated in the spring, may decrease nutrient and sediment losses from the fields over winter as well as improve soil quality.
1. Bachelor's degree in Geology, Chemistry, Biology or related field
2. Strong background in analytical chemistry and experience with analytical instrumentation.
3. Working knowledge of computers (Excel, Word).
4. Ability and willingness to participate in field work
5. Valid driver's license.
6. Strong interpersonal skills including good written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with water nutrient analyses using Flow Injection Analyses and ion chromatography, QA/QC methods, management of large databases, and leadership and team management skills. R programming skills would contribute to aspects of the research program
Working primarily in laboratory rooms in the Agriculture, Geology, and Biology departments where the various analytical equipment is housed. Occasionally, the Research Associate may be required to assist with field work on agricultural fields and/or near roads in McLean and adjacent counties.
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

2. Move about in various locations on and off campus as needed to complete day-to-day work
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis
$38,000 to $48,000. Pay is commensurate with qualifications and experience, combined with an excellent benefits package
