General Summary

Position: In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year, the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences maintains a pool of qualified persons interested in part-time, non-tenure-track teaching positions. Applications are accepted continuously and reviewed as vacancies become available. There may not be an actual vacancy at the time you apply. Salary is based upon qualifications and experience.

These positions are represented by the Illinois State University Education Association and may have associated dues or fees.

Duties: Teach one undergraduate courses in criminal justice, such as Criminal Law. Other duties may be assigned by the Department Chair.

The Department of Criminal Justice Sciences (CJS) has built a strong reputation for scholarly work in the field of criminology, criminal justice, law, and social justice, while maintaining a commitment to teaching, collegiality, and service. Over the past decade, we have undergone consistent growth and diversification. Today we have approximately 525 undergraduate students, 16 full-time faculty members and a growing Master's degree program with approximately 25 students. Our staff includes an academic advisor, office manager, and coordinator of undergraduate studies and student support services. The purpose of the Criminal Justice Sciences program is to provide the student with a system orientation to the field of criminal justice. Study in criminal justice involves the application of the principles and the related behavioral and social issues in the field. The program focuses on the building of knowledge in the areas of policing, courts, and corrections from a social science perspective. Students develop a knowledge base for an in-depth understanding of human behavior and the kinds of problems and circumstances that often result in criminality.

Required Qualifications

1. Master's degree or J.D. in Criminal Justice or a closely related field. 
2. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to teach courses in criminal law
3. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
